The visitor center teaches about the canyon before you venture onto the 30+ miles of trails in the area.
Another great place to explore just a few miles from town is the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. This unpublicized hidden gem offers hiking, picnicing, and petroglyphs to discover. They are intentionally not mapped, so finding one is always a surprise. Mt. Charleston, just northwest of town, has snow sports and forest recreation.

The last 5 years have exploded for Professional and Amateur Sports in the valley. UNLV Rebels have been around forever and are very popular. The university’s home base mainly is the Thomas and Mack Center and now football will play at Allegiant Stadium.
- WNBA Aces arrived in 2017 to play at Mandalay Events Center. The ladies are keeping the Las Vegas winning attitude.
- Professional sports organizations like to please world-wide audiences by holding exhibition and special event games in Vegas.
- National Finals Rodeo is 10 days of boot-stomping fun in December.
- Golf is a large draw with over 50 courses in the Las Vegas area. The TPC Las Vegas course hosts the annual PGA Shriner’s Open.
- Las Vegas Motor Speedway features NASCAR, drag racing, sports car driving, dirt track and more. There are events most weekends.
- The LV Lights soccer team plays downtown at Cashman field and is becoming more popular every year.
- The Aviators are the triple A Team for the Oakland A’s with a brand new 10,000 seat ballpark.
- Vegas Golden Knights are an NHL expansion team. They took the city by storm and the energy has not wavered.
- The Silver Knights were purchased in 2019 to be the AHL farm team for the Golden Knights. Previously affilited with the Colorado Avalanche, their new Henderson facilities are under construction.
- NFL’s Oakland Raiders 2020 saw the Raiders raid Las Vegas. The city anxiously awaited the 2020 season which finally took off with the Raiders winning their first two games.
